Cardinal O’Boyle formally dedicated the new parish plant on Sunday, March 24, 1968. Bishop John S. Spence, Auxiliary Bishop, preached the sermon. Chaplains to the Cardinal were Father Oliver Mahedy, assistant pastor of St. Joseph and Mr. Michael F. Bryant, later ordained as the first vocation to the priesthood from the parish. In celebration of the dedication, several hundred parishioners and friends attended a reception in the evening.
Reverend Joseph J. Naughton succeeded Father McMain as pastor in June 1970. The final touch to the completion of the new St. Joseph was the renovation of the parish hall. The redecorated hall was adorned with tapestries, mirrors and chandeliers. Father Naughton named the redecorated hall “Rosemont Room” in time for the Golden Jubilee celebration.
With the passage of those fifty years, St. Joseph Church rose from humble beginnings to a thriving suburban parish rich in history and dedicated service to the Church. It serves as a tribute to the pioneer priests and parishioners who served in hidden glory in the early years of its struggles and it stands as a challenge to parishioners today.
