Our Lady of Grace Sodality at St. Joseph Church

Mission Statement and Vision

Our Lady of Grace Sodality was organized in 1943.  It is the oldest society of men and women at St Joseph Roman Catholic Church.  We proclaim our identity as Sodalists of Mary and as her children by promoting devotions to the rosary, by seeking to intimately know Christ Jesus through the intercession of His Blessed Mother and by the example of our lives.

The Sodality seeks to promote a deep spiritual formation of its members and foster a genuine love for Mary and for all humankind.  The Sodality encourages Sodalists to seek to live virtuous lives by abiding in the moral teachings of the Church, and facilitates the sanctification of individual Sodalists to equip them for the work of building up the Kingdom of God on earth.  “Sodalis” is a Latin word, which can be translated as a very close friend or associate, a companion who shares the same principles and who is willing to work together for justice. The Sodality sponsors programs in liturgy, evangelization, ecumenism and community outreach.

Our Lady of Grace Sodality endeavors to achieve its mission through the following activities:

    Recitation of the Rosary before Mass and with the religion education students

    Group participation in worship

    Sponsoring retreats and pilgrimages

    Serving as sponsors for adult catechumens

    Praying for the deceased and for special intentions of the faith community

    Sponsoring special events honoring the Virgin Mary such as the May procession

    Assisting with First Communicants

    Visiting and bringing the Eucharist to sick and homebound Sodalists

    Serving in the ministries of St. Joseph Parish and making financial gifts to the Parish

    Sponsoring social events for the building up of the community

    Participating in community demonstrations in support of human rights issues

    Promoting the goals of the Sodality Union of the Archdiocese of Washington

Way of Life

It should be stressed to the Sodalist that being a member is not just a series of activities but a way of life. It is not just a club one joins, but a life one leads. It is not a hobby for spare time, but a vocation affecting one’s whole life.
